Examining Issues Related to an Early Care and Education Teacher Policy

There are various issues involved from getting from the current system where many early childhood caregivers only need a high school diploma to a time when all preschool teachers will have a bachelor’s degree in a related field. This article explores two of these issues: the constraints facing early education teachers in improving their credentials and the capacity of teacher preparation programs to support the policy for bachelor’s degrees. Recommendations are offered in this article from Early Childhood Research & Practice, Volume 7, Number 1 for both policymakers and researchers in terms of optimizing a BA policy and ensuring the policy-related supports are working.
