2005 State Preschool Yearbook Interactive Database

This database includes information from NIEER's 2005 State Preschool Yearbook about key state prekindergarten policies. Our interactive database serves as a companion to the individual state profile pages in the Yearbook, using the same data. Information is provided in tables so that policy comparisons can be made across all 50 states. Some data elements can also be sorted by numerical value by clicking on their column heading. For example, state spending per child enrolled can be shown with states arranged either alphabetically or in order from highest to lowest spending per child.

The data in these tables are for the 2004-2005 program year (unless otherwise noted), and cover three major areas: Access, Quality Standards, and Resources. More details about each individual data element within these categories can be found by clicking on the links below. For some data elements, there are two tables available, with one presenting the data by state and the other presenting data by program. This is because some states fund more than one prekindergarten program. In these states, the analysis differs depending on whether each program is examined separately or whether all the programs within a state are grouped together.
