by Nancy L. Marshall, Julie Dennehy, Elizabeth Starr and Wendy Wagner Robeson (2005)

Summary

This NIEER-funded report provides a detailed analysis of the Massachusetts Capacity Survey of 59 institutions of higher education, thereby assessing the current capacity of Massachusetts' public and private institutions of higher education to effectively educate and prepare those entering the early education and care (EEC) field. The study addresses whether these students are taught the standards of skill and knowledge required to serve children from birth through school-age. The paper outlines the current state of teacher quality, giving the state an idea of the changes required and how to shape its future investments in workforce development for the EEC field.
