D.C. resident Marshall High is on the search for childcare options for his 2-year-old daughter, and like many parents before him, he’s tapped into an informal yet important information clearinghouse for suggestions — other parents.

“We ask parents at the playground, ‘What do you do?’ We do a lot of that. We also ask our parent friends,” he says.

But now D.C. is stepping in with a resource of its own: My Childcare D.C., a website listing the city’s 467 licensed childcare options, both center- and home-based. The website allows parents to search by address and compare centers on a number of factors, including hours type of accreditation and whether they accept city subsidies.
