Kindergarten literacy push has some teachers worried

[A] recent study by teachers found the districtwide push to get kindergartners reading has some teachers overusing the exam – administering it monthly in some cases – and pressuring children and parents to meet literacy benchmarks. Fearful the San Diego school district’s literacy drive is turning its youngest students off to school, a group of kindergarten teachers has persuaded administrators to pull back plans to drastically raise the kindergarten reading standards.
