Groups push for child-care subsidies, welfare reform

Glenda Sandoval, a preschool teacher in Santa Fe, has watched many children from poor families be denied child care because parents didn’t quite meet state guidelines to receive assistance. New Mexico Voices For Children advocates a return to the department’s original policy of providing assistance to families who earn up to 200 percent of poverty level, instead of 100 percent.
