Study assails lack of training, terrible pay, state's inaction

The child-care work force in Utah is generally underqualified, undertrained and significantly underpaid, results of a six-month study released Wednesday says. Even though Utah families, like those in most states around the country, use day care as if it were an accepted social service like health care and schooling, it remains difficult to find, compensation for workers is low and the state has so far not taken a comprehensive look at what to do about it, an executive summary of the study states.
