Skowhegan police chief ready for Washington lobbying trip

Police Chief Butch Asselin travels to Washington, D.C. today as part of a delegation of law enforcement officials to lobby against Bush administration proposals to reduce funding for child care and after-school programs. The message they will convey, Asselin said Tuesday, is that investment in preschool, child care, and after-school programs such as Head Start and Quantum Opportunities has a big payoff in terms of crime prevention.
