Education Expert Shares Joy of Reading with Preschoolers
National Institute for Early Education Research and Starbucks Sponsor Reading, Seek Donated Books for Needy Children Through Bridge of Books Foundation

Date: Dec 11, 2006

New Brunswick, NJ – You might not expect to see preschoolers nestled in the comfy chairs and sofas of Starbucks, but at 10:30 a.m., December 14 at the George Street Starbucks in New Brunswick, some 30 preschoolers will share a holiday treat when early education expert Ellen Frede will read a special children's story to them as part of Starbucks' drive to collect books for The Bridge of Books Foundation.

Frede is co-director of the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) who, along with Starbucks, is helping to highlight the need for donated books for The Bridge of Books Foundation that distributes new and used books to needy children and children's organizations. Frede is a developmental psychologist specializing in early childhood education.

The Bridge of Books Foundation gives books to foster family agencies, homeless shelters, Head Start programs, underfunded schools and after-school programs, neighborhood centers, boys and girls clubs, and directly to children at food pantries. The Bridge of Books organization provides a wide range of used or new books that meet the needs of children from preschool through high school. Working with Starbucks, they are seeking books to donate to children through the holiday season and beyond.
