Updating the economic impacts of the High/Scope Perry Preschool Program

Summary

Using data on outcomes, including educational attainment, earnings, criminal activity, and welfare receipt, the authors found a strong advantage for participants of the Perry Preschool Program in terms of higher earnings and lower criminal activity. Portraying the outcomes in monetary terms, the authors calculate the net value of the program for participants as well as for society. Implications for public policy on early childhood education are also considered in this article published in Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Volume 27, Issue 3.
