New on nieer.org

Preschool Matters, NIEER's award-winning news magazine brings a new dimension to our audience in the form of a regularly occurring blog, Preschool Matters … Today! Since NIEER began publishing Preschool Matters in 2003, it has served the critically important function of reporting on research, policy and practice for a large and growing audience of educators, policymakers, journalists, advocates, and parents. As that audience has grown, so have the media tools that enable us to carry out our mission even more effectively.

As its name implies Preschool Matters … Today! will address issues as they arise and are current in the public mind. As always, we will attempt to connect the dots by treating the issues in the context of what the research says and the implications for both policy and practice. A case in point is this week's entry, which focuses on math and science in early education. It follows last week's disappointing news from the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) that fourth grade math scores have remained essentially unchanged since 2007. We look forward to the new dynamic Preschool Matters … Today! affords us — your thoughtful feedback. You can also join in the conversation on Facebook and Twitter.
